Adjective and Its classification
যে Part of Speech দ্বারা Noun বা Pronoun এর দোষ, গুণ, অবস্থা, পরিমাণ বা সংখ্যা ইত্যাদি প্রকাশ করা হয়, তাকে Adjective বলে।
Example:
Rinku has blue eyes. (বৈশিষ্ট্য)
My room gets messy all the time. (দোষ)
Siam is the first boy in the class. (অবস্থান)
We have six pets. (সংখ্যা)
Uses of Adjective
Attributive Uses: যখন Adjective, Noun-এর পূর্বে বসে ঐ Noun-কে Modify করে, Adjective-এর এরূপ ব্যবহারই হলো Adjective-এর Attributive Use.
Example: My mother loves to have spicy food.
Predicative Uses: যখন Adjective, Predicative Verb-এর পরে বসে Subject-কে Modify করে, Adjective-এর এরূপ ব্যবহার হলো Adjective-এর Predicative Use। Predicative Verb বলতে মূলত Be verb বোঝায়।
Example: This food is spicy.
Classification of Adjective
Adjective প্রধানত চার প্রকার:
- Adjective of Quality or, Descriptive Adjective.
- Adjective of Quantity or, Quantitative Adjective.
- Adjective of Number or, Numeral Adjective.
- Pronominal Adjective.
Adjective of Quality
যে Adjective, Noun বা Pronoun এর গুণ, দোষ বা অবস্থা প্রকাশ করে, তাকে Adjective of Quality বলে।
Example: This cup is fancy.
Adjective of Quantity
যে Adjective, Noun এর পরিমাণ নির্দেশ করে, তাকে Adjective of Quantity বলে।
Example: Drink enough water.
Adjective of Number
যে Adjective, Noun-এর সংখ্যা, ক্রমিক অবস্থান বা পর্যায় বোঝায়, তাকে Adjective Of Number বলে।
Example: December is the last month of the year.
3 types of Numeral Adjective:
- Cardinal: One, Two, Three etc.
- Ordinal: First, Second, Third, Last etc.
- Multiplicative: Single, Double, Threefold etc.
এদেরকে Definite Numeral Adjective ও বলে।
Indefinite Numeral Adjective: যে সকল Numeral Adjective নির্দিষ্ট কোনো সংখ্যা প্রকাশ না করে, সংখ্যার ধারণা প্রকাশ করে, তাকে Numeral Adjective বলে।
Example: No student should leave the class.
Pronominal Adjective
Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Pronominal Adjective বলে।
Example: She is my sister.
Pronominal Adjective প্রধানত ৪ প্রকার:
- Demonstrative Adjective
- Interrogative Adjective
- Distributive Adjective
- Possessive Adjective
Demonstrative Adjective
Demonstrative Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Demonstrative Adjective বলে।
Example:
This house is ours.
Interrogative Adjective:
Interrogative Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Interrogative Adjective বলে।
Example:
Which song do you like the most?
Distributive Adjective
Distributive Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Distributive Adjective বলে।
Example:
- Every student must bring his book.
- Every person at the masquerade wore a mask.
- I run a mile every
Possessive Adjective
Possessive Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Possessive Adjective বলে।
Example:
- She is my
- My sister lives in Paris.
- Is that your bag under the chair?
Some other Adjectives
Proper Adjective: যে Adjective, Proper Noun থেকে গঠিত হয়, তাকে Proper Adjective বলে।
Proper Noun → Proper Adjective
Bangladesh → Bangladeshi
India → Indian
Relative Adjective: Relative Pronoun যখন Noun এর পূর্বে বসে Adjective এর মত কাজ করে তখন তাকে Relative Adjective বলে।
Example:
Tell me which book I should read.
Do you know what languages he speaks ?
I don’t know which train to take.
Exclamatory Adjective: “What” যখন Exclamation প্রকাশ করে এবং Adjective এর মত কাজ করে, তখন তাকে Exclamatory Adjective বলে।
Example:
- What a wonderful world!
- What a beautiful dress!
- What a superb idea!
Emphasizing Adjective: Own ও Very যখন emphasize (জোর দেয়া) বোঝায়, তখন তাদের Emphasizing Adjective বলে।
Example:
- This is the very earring which I lost.
- I saw him with my own
- This was the very toy that my child wanted.
Compound Adjective: যে Adjective একাধিক word নিয়ে গঠিত, তাকে Compound Adjective বলে।
Example:
- We share a seven-year-long
- This is a four-foot
- Daniella is a part-time worker
