Situ : I’m fine, thanks. What about you?
Ritu : I’m ok. I think it would be better if you got yourself admitted into a college in the city as I did.
Situ : I don’t think so, Ritu. Actually , I don’t like cities.
Ritu : Why? What’re the things of city life you dislike?
Situ : I think, life in the city is very artificial. People lead a very busy life there.
Ritu : Yes, city life busy .
Situ : They get up in the morning hearing the noises of motor vehicles, machines and factories.
Ritu : You’re right. But there are many modern facilities that you can have only in cities. Good educational institutes, hospitals and clinics are mainly available in the city . Again, there are many spots for recreations.
Situ : That’s true. But I think life in the village is far better than that of the town. Village life is quite natural. People lead a very simple life. They wake up from sleep hearing the chirping of the birds and can breathe in fresh air. Do you have fresh fish in the town?
Ritu : Actually , fishes are available there, but not fresh.
Situ : But fresh food, fishes, vegetables, fruits etc. are available in the village. Moreover , village life is pollution free.
Ritu : You’re right. But village life is not without its disadvantages.
Ritu : What are those?
Situ : Disease, hunger , malnutrition and poverty are common in the life of the villagers. Also, jobs are not available here.
Situ : Hmm. Actually , both lives have their advantages and disadvantages. I think a balanced development can remove the gap between these two types of life.
Ritu : Yes, I agree with you. See you later .
Situ : Ok, bye. Take a good care of yourself.

Rizwan : That’s good idea because you are thinking about the users.
Minhaj : Anyway , you’ve said you want to go to Chattogram. Why?
Rizwan : Well. You know , I’m from Chattogram. My relatives live there. I’ll pay a visit them for a few days.
Minhaj : Aren’t you in touch with them on social media?
Rizwan : Yea, but think visiting somebodies in-person has more appeal than on social media. In this fast-paced world we get less time to meet each other or we forget to meet each other. I think personally visit them will make my bond with them stronger .
Minhaj : That’s right. But, don’t you have any study plan?
Rizwan : Yea, I have. You know I am weak in English. So I want to do a course for improving my English. After returning from my village, I will do a course on it.
Minhaj : Good. English has become a global language and so we must develop our skills in this language.
Rizwan : Right. Again, for higher studies, business and for global communication we need to know English well. I want to do a short course from a language institute.
Minhaj : Good. But while staying in your village, you can also try to improve your English by reading English dailies, listening to news, watching movies, TV series, etc. Besides, you can find online materials for developing your English.
Rizwan : Oh, good suggestion. Thank you very much, Minhaj. See you again. Bye.

Rashida : For this, you need to make a proper exam strategy .
Rina : How should I do that?
Rashida : After getting the question paper , read the questions thoroughly . And choose the questions to answer .
Rina : Then?
Rashida : Make a proper division of time for writing the answers. Avoid unnecessary detailing to manage time. Again, allocate some time for revising the answers. It will ensure that there is no spelling error or information gap. Start writing from easy to difficult questions.
Rina : Hmm, good suggestion.
Rashida : Again, you can practice taking examination at home maintaining your time. This will help overcome this problem.
Rina : I’ll follow your suggestion. By the way , what about you?

Nafis : Hello, Anis! How’re you?
Anis : I’m fine. What about you?
Nafis : I’m fine too.
Anis : How is your study going on?
Nafis : Well. But I want to develop my skills in English. What can I do?
Anis : You know , there are four main skills of a language.
Nafis : What are these?
Anis : These are listening, speaking, reading and writing. If you want develop your skills in English, you have to focus on these four skills.
Nafis : For speaking, we need to speak more in English. I have tried but I often make mistakes. So, I am afraid of speaking in front of others.
Anis : In this regard, don’t think too much about mistakes. You will learn through mistakes. Rather if someone laughs listening to you mistakes, request him/her to correct your English.
Nafis : That’s a good idea.
Anis : Again, you have to choose words according to situation, topic, whom you are talking to, etc.
Nafis : We can practise speaking English together .
Anis : Yea. That will help us develop our speaking skill.
Nafis : How can I develop my listening skill?
Anis : You have to listen more.
Nafis : I’ve difficulty in understanding English spoken by a British or American.
Anis : It’s a problem for me too. I think it is because of the accent of the native speakers. But I’ve developed a lot by listening to BBC. You can listen to BBC, VOA, etc.
Nafis : I think we can watch movies, TV series, listen to sports commentaries too.
Anis : Yea, certainly these will be helpful.
Nafis : How can we develop reading skill?
Anis : For reading skills, you have to read more. Apart from your text, you can read English dailies, magazines, etc.
Nafis : Again, we can read story books, novels, etc. But I can’t understand many words.
Anis : In this case, you can take help from a good dictionary .
Nafis : Right. Sometimes, it goes beyond literal meaning. So, we have to give emphasis on understanding.
Anis : What do you think about developing writing skills?
Nafis : We can practice writing more to develop writing skills.
Anis : Yea. But you have to be careful about you spelling, choice of words, writing grammatically correct sentences.
Nafis : How can I ensure accuracy in this case?
Anis : You can take help from good grammar books. Again, every type of writing has its own format or features. You have to follow that and so know well about them.
Nafis : I think we can develop writing by doing free writing on familiar topics.
Anis : Yes, I agree. Now , let’s go to the class.
Nafis : OK.
Education is very important for the development of a nation. Suppose, you are Sajid/Sajida and your friend is Arif/Arifa. Now, write a dialogue between you and your friend about the importance of education in the development of a nation.
Sajid : Hello, Arif. How’re you doing?
Arif : Fine, thank you. What about you?
Sajid : I’m fine too. What are you doing?
Arif : I’m preparing an assignment on the importance of education in the development of a nation.
Sajid : That’s a very important topic. Education is the backbone of a nation. If most of the people of a country remain illiterate, it can never develop.
Arif : Yes. Illiterate people remain in the darkness of ignorance. They lack the knowledge of any kind.
Sajid : So, they can’t succeed in their life let alone help in the progress of the country .
Arif : Also, they’re devoid of values and responsibilities.
Sajid : You’re right. They don’t hesitate to break rules. They’re an obstacle towards the way of development.
Arif : On the contrary , educated people are aware of everything, and thus, can play a vital role in the growth of the country .
Sajid : Education helps people become better citizens, and makes them loyal and responsible to their country . So, they perform their duties accordingly .
Arif : Besides, education helps people to act wisely , and train them to use their knowledge properly
Sajid : Thus, education provides people with the necessary skills.
Arif : As a result, they can help themselves out of poverty . That is how , they can change their condition.
Sajid : Hmm. An educated person can do a job better than an uneducated person. He can do it easily and quickly . So, if a whole nation is educated, it will develop eventually .
Arif : A great number of people in our country are illiterate. If we want to make ourselves a developed nation, we have to make all the people educated.
Sajid : But, I think education should be redefined.
Arif : Why do you think so?
Sajid : In our society , many educated persons are seen working only for their personal gain. They are being involved in corruption and baffling development.
Arif : They are so called educated. They are not truly educated. A truly educated person cannot do any unethical work.
Sajid : So, we should give emphasis on ethics and morality .
Arif : As we live in society , we learn many things from society . Only educational institutions cannot contribute in this
respect. Every sector of society should ensure good governance.
Sajid : And we must impart education that can meet the demand of this time and can face the challenges to go ahead.
Arif : Exactly . I also think so.
Sajid : The government should take proper steps for this.
Arif : Certainly .
Sajid : Anyway , I’ve to go now . See you later .
Arif : Bye. Take care.
